Evelyn Bakke grew up on a farm, attended eight years in a country school and then high school in Castlewood. Evelyn has been in food service most of her life, either working or owning business that served food. She spent 27 years in the school lunch program starting in the fall of 1985 and retiring in the spring of 2012. A good administrative team, sta& and co-workers made it a pleasure. Read More

Vicki (Colberg) DeVille, a 1972 Estelline High School graduate, was chosen to lead
this year’s Homecoming parade. Vicki grew up in Estelline, attending Estelline
School for 13 years. Her parents are Earl and Shirley Colberg. Her siblings were
all EHS graduates: Linda (1971), Pat (1974), Sheila (1977), Lorri (1978), Kristi

Carla (Foster) Clarke, a 1977 Estelline High School graduate, was chosen to lead this year’s Homecoming parade. Carla grew up in Estelline, attending school for all 13 years. Her parents, Ronold (1955) and Jeanette (Hutt 1956) also graduated from EHS, along with her brothers, Jeff (1980) and Todd (1982). READ MORE
David 1970 and Jan Johnson, former teacher, were chosen as Grand Marshals for this year’s Homecoming Parade. They own Reliabank along with their sons Reid 2002 and Ethan, who attended elementary school in Estelline. Reliabank has nine locations in Eastern South Dakota from Watertown to Sioux Falls with the bank’s charter in Estelline. Reliabank is celebrating its Centennial in 2020. READ MORE
Cindy (Papka) Rust, an Estelline High School graduate, was chosen to lead this year’s Homecoming parade. She was born in Estelline to Stanley and Mamie Papka and grew up with her siblings: Merlin (Bud) deceased; Darlene (Dot) in 1954; Karen 1957; Jan 1960; Judy 1964; and Denny 1968. Cindy attended school all 13 years in Estelline and graduated in 1969. READ MORE
After graduation, Jeanette attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls until she was offered a job at the Farmers State Bank in Estelline, now known as Reliabank. She married Ron Foster in 1958 and they lived in Estelline until 1974 when they moved to a farm south of town. She worked at the bank for 40 years until retirement. After moving into town in 2005, Jeanette worked at the Estelline Café until it closed and then she worked at the Estelline Care Center as the bedmaker for seven years. Ron and Jeanette rarely missed an Estelline sporting event over the years until Ron’s health declined. The highlight of the athletic events were attending the State B Tournament every year in March. I grew up on a farm southwest of Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School and then my education continued at Dakota State University with a degree earned in Elementary Education. My career included teaching positions at Franklin, SD, followed by moves to Colorado Springs, Sioux City and Custer before coming to Estelline in 1978. The 32 years at Estelline were the highlight of my 44 years in education and I will always be grateful to Bruce Carson, Superintendent, and the board members for giving me a chance to be a part of the Estelline School District.
After retiring in 2010, Tom and I moved to Lake Poinsett and we are enjoying life at the lake. We look forward visits with our 3 children and their families, including 5 grandchildren. Retirement activities include lake activities, some travel, volunteering for AARP projects in the Estelline community and spending time with family and friends. The 32 years with the staff and wonderful families in the Estelline School District were memorable and it is my privilege to continue to be a part of the school family, now from the sidelines.
What do you get when you cross an Aggie School athlete with a Bruce Bees cheerleader? The answer is two long-time Estelline Redmen fans. The Estelline Alumni Association has chosen Ralph and Donna Jean Schwartz of Estelline to
lead this year’s Homecoming Parade. The couple rarely misses an Estelline ballgame, home or away. “It’s something to do,” Donna said, but when pressed, Ralph added, “It’s really enjoyable to watch the kids develop over the years.”

Mrs. Taylor returned to Estelline in 2015 as both a math teacher and a member of the school and administration. She teaches Pre- Calculus and Calculus and is half-time principal for grades k-12. She previously taught math at Brookings High School. Prior to that she taught math in Estelline for 17 years. Taylor graduated from Hamlin High School and attended South Dakota State University for both her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and her master’s degree in education administration. Mrs. Taylor’s husband Jim, is a 1968 graduate of EHS. They have four grown children, Amy, Colin, Chelsea and Megan, all EHS graduates.
Trudy Moberg was selected as the grand marshal for the Homecoming parade this fall. Mrs. Moberg retired this past May after a teaching career that spanned 39 years, 32 of them as the fifth grade teacher at Sharon Delzer F. Elementary School.
Mrs. Moberg graduated from Southwest Minnesota State College in Marshall with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. After teaching in Granite Falls, MN; Manawa, WI; Mason City, IA; and Brookings, Mrs. Moberg settled in Estelline.She and her husband, Darvin, live on a farm near Bruce where they raised their three children.
Joanne (Bruinsma) Foster, a 1959 Estelline High School graduate, has been chosen as Grand Marshal for
2012 homecoming parade by the Estelline Alumni Association. Joanne and her husband, the late Paul Foster who graduated from EHS in 1953, moved into Estelline in 1985 after having lived on the family farm since their marriage in 1959. “What was I going to do in town to keep busy?” Joanne wondered. “I put an ad in the Journal that spring – Need a spring dress? Call me.” And her seamstress business took off.
